Yunnan Baiyao

What does Yunnan Baiyao do for dogs?

Yunnan Baiyao is commonly used to extend the life of dogs (and cats) with bleeding cancers. Yunnan Baiyao works by activating the platelet, which are the small blood components that help make the blood clot. Blood clots are the first step in a scab.

How long can my dog take Yunnan Baiyao?

Yunnan Baiyao should only be taken under consult of a veterinarian. In some cases, Yunnan Baiyao is recommended for up to 15 days. Other veterinarians recommend a treatment of 5 days on and 5 days off. Daily use may be recommended for dogs with terminal conditions.

Should I give my dog Yunnan Baiyao?

Yunnan Baiyao should only be used under consult of a veterinarian. It is commonly used to extend the life of dogs (and cats) with bleeding cancers such as hemangiosarcoma or nasal cancer (nosebleeds). Some treatments for cancer, such as Chemotherapy promote bleeding. Additionally, Yunnan Baiyao may be used after surgeries.

Should Yunnan Baiyao be given with food?

Yunnan Baiyao is most often given as an oral capsule with food. The capsule can also be opened and the powder mixed in with the food if that is easier for your dog (or cat). Yunnan Baiyao can also be sprinkled onto an open wound or tumor.

Can you give your dog too much Yunnan Baiyao?

Every dog and every case is unique. Ultimately, you will want to find the lowest dosage needed to control bleeding. For some dogs this will be 1 capsule every few days, for others it may be 4 capsules, 4 times a day. Yunnan Baiyao should be taken under consult of a veterinarian.

Can Yunnan Baiyao cause diarrhea?

Signs of dehydration can be a side effect of Yunnan Baiyao and indicative that the current dosage may be too high. Signs of dehydration in dogs include diarrhea, frequent urination, drinking more water than usual, and cracked nose or paws.
